In einer Kooperation mit »basis« (www.basis-frankfurt.de) freuen wir uns mit den frühen Videoarbeiten des legendären Kollektives Ant Farm, zu den absoluten Anfängen der Videokunst zurückzublicken dürfen:

Ant Farm wurde 1968 von Chip Lord und Doug Michels in San Francisco gegründet und war ein Zusammenschluss radikaler Architekten, Grafiker, Umweltdesigner und Künstler, die sich u.a. auf »alternative« Architekten wie Buckminster Fuller, Archigram und Superstudio bezogen. In erster Linie waren sie aber Visionäre und eher Aktivisten, die sich mit den ersten SONY Portapaks bewaffnet in ihrem »Media Van« auf den Weg machten, Ihre medialen Events, ortsbezogene Installationen und spektakulären Performances zu dokumentieren.

Ant Farm löste sich auf, als 1978 ein Feuer ihr Studio in San Francisco zerstörte.

With this screening - a cooperation with »basis« (www.basis-frankfurt.de) - we are pleased to return to very beginnings of video art. We will show early works by the legendary collective Ant Farm.

Ant Farm was founded by Chip Lord and Doug Michaels in San Francisco in 1968. The group was a collaboration between avant-garde architects, graphic artists, environmental designers, and artists, who were influenced by »alternative« architects such as Buckminster Fuller, Archigram and Superstudio. But above all they were visionaries, activists armed with the first SONY Portapaks hitting the road with their »Media Van« to document their media events, installations and spectacular performances.

Ant Farm disbanded in 1978 when a fire destroyed their San Francisco Studio.
